26 April- Workshop on Maximizing Success: Outcome-Based IEP Goals. To mark
their shared 10 year anniversary of service to the autism community, the
Behavioral Direction LLC and the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) invite
you to attend their jointly sponsored seminar ?Maximizing Success: Outcome
Based IEP Goals?. This workshop will present a brief overview of the IEP
process, address the importance of and provide guidance on writing measurable
goals, and will offer an interactive writing exercise. Feel free to bring a

26 April- The Arc of Greater Prince William invites you to a special workshop
on Safety Considerations for Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum
Disorders and Other Cognitive Disabilities.? This workshop will be presented
by Scott Campbell, an active duty Army officer and board member for POAC-NoVA
and ASNV. He will focus on a review of considerations that can help parents
to keep their children safe from a host of dangers specific to individuals
with autism spectrum disorders and other cognitive disabilities. It is on
Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Muriel Humphrey Respite

27 April- Bullying workshop. Do you know about bullying in Arlington? Does it exist? How bad is it? Come learn more from Amie Grills-Taquechel (University of Houston, Professor; Virginia Tech, Ph.D.; and, published researcher in her field). Dr. Grills-Taquechel will talk about her recent research on the impact of bullying. She will use data from Arlington’s 2010 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), where one in five reported they had been bullied in the last year. She will help us interpret the YRBS and other Arlington sources to help us understand the reality in our community. Learn more about: Bullying, bullies, and victims – what do those words mean? JCCNV Special Needs Parent Support Group. Special Needs Parent and Caregiver Support Group Meets the first Wednesday of each month from 7pm to 8:30pm, unless it's a holiday. Notice will be given for make-up. This group welcomes parents and caregivers of school-age children with disabilities/special needs. Virginia Special Education Parent Involvement Survey. All parents of school-aged children and youth who receive special education services in Virginia’s schools are encouraged to complete the Department of Education’s annual Parent Involvement Survey. This is a great opportunity for parents to provide input to help guide efforts to improve services and outcomes for their children. Your responses will be kept anonymous and never be personally linked to your child. The results of this survey will be made available to the public.
