10 July- Dreams for Kids and the Washington Nationals team up for the Extreme Recess Baseball Clinic! Join DFK and the Nationals for DC’s premier adaptive sports event on July 10th from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Nats’ Stadium. The Extreme Recess Baseball Clinic will allow children with physical and developmental disabilities to play baseball and a variety of other sports – often, for the very first time. All participants will receive 2 tickets to the August 10th Nats’ game! Children in kindergarten through 12th grade are allowed to partake for FREE. 10 July- Dr. Peter Gerhardt presenting on TRANSITION AT ANY AGE at The Aurora School, 420 Wildman Street, Leesburg, VA 20176 on JULY 10 from 8:30 to 4:30! COST: $35 for members of The Arc of Loudoun in advance; $50 for non-members or for registration at the door. Dr. Peter Gerhardt is the author or co-author of articles and book chapters on the needs of adults with autism spectrum disorder, the school-to-work-transition process and analysis and intervention of problematic behavior. He has presented nationally and internationally on these topics. This workshop will provide an overview of effective education planning for TRANSITION AT ANY AGE with particular emphasis on evidence-based practices in support of intensive community-based interventions. 10 July- The Fauquier Autism Resource Group and the Rappahanock-Rapidan Autism Action Group are sponsoring a free lecture entitled, "Improving Autism-Spectrum Disorders by Healing Underlying Health Issues" on Saturday, July 10th, 2010 from 4:30 to 6:30pm at the Fauquier Hospital's Sycamore A conference room in Warrenton, VA/ If you are not yet familiar with what biomedical intervention is, I encourage you to attend this lecture to learn more. Sally Kirk, author of Hope for the Autism Spectrum, will share her story of how biomedical intervention helped her son, Will. He's done so well he was chosen to receive the 9th/10th-grade 2009-10' Student of the Year in Virginia. Sally Kirk begins her book with the story of how her son improved dramatically on biomedical intervention, but continues offering a wealth of practical and easy-to-understand information about underlying health problems and treatments in autism-spectrum disorders. 17 July- Sensory Friendly Movie. Please join AMC and the Autism Society for "Despicable Me". It is on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the AMC Tyson's (Mclean) - 703-734-6212, AMC Potomac Mills (Woodbridge) - 703-490-3801, and AMC Rio Cinemas (Gaithersburg) 301-948-6673. Cost is $6 per person. AMC Entertainment (AMC) and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy new current in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the "Sensory Friendly Films" program. In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing - in other words, AMC's "Silence is Golden" policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is in question.

17 July- POAC-NoVA presents our 6th Annual Picnic BBQ on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 12PM to 5PM at the Knights of Columbus Edward Douglas White (EDW) Hall at 5115 Little Falls Road, Arlington, VA 22207.
