23 January- DSANV Workshop on Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
Improving Curriculum Design and Instruction for ALL Students with a Special Presentation from VATS on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Shrevewood Elementary School Cafeteria, 7525 Shreve Road, Falls Church, VA 22043. Please join us for a presentation from Ricki Sabia, Associate Director of the NDSS Policy Center and Chair of the National UDL Task Force. This workshop will provide an overview of UDL and its benefits over traditional curriculum development and delivery. In addition, tips on advocating for UDL will be provided, including a description of the advocacy effort in Maryland to pass a state UDL bill. This "hands-on" workshop will include a presentation from VATS that will integrate how assistive technology can work together with UDL to create ideas on curriculum for your child or classroom.
Universal Design for Learning is a way of designing curriculum to account for the diverse learning styles of all students. American schools are becoming increasing challenged to meet the learning needs of a wider array of students and UDL is being recognized as the primary way to make that happen. Please see http://www.cast.org/index.html for a more detailed description of UDL. A map and directions are at http://commweb.fcps.edu/directory/map_base.cfm?locid=108. Please RSVP to Noelle Holloman no later than January 20, 2010 at NoelleH@dsanv.org or by calling 703-621-7129.
