POAC-NoVA: Autism, Medical and Education Information, 18 December 2009

Dec 19, 2009
19 December- CANCELLED! CANCELLED! CANCELLED! CANCELLED! CANCELLED!
Please don't join us at the Parents Of Autistic Children of Northern
Virginia (POAC-NoVA) and the Autism Society of Northern Virginia's (ASNV)
Holiday Party in the auditorium of the Jewish Community Center of Northern
Virginia on Saturday, 19 December 2009 from 1 to 4pm. It is at 8900 Little
River Turnpike, Fairfax, VA (From the Capital Beltway (495), take exit 52A,
(Little River Turnpike West; also called Route 236 West). The JCCNV is
located on the right-hand side, 1.5 miles west on Little River Turnpike, at
the intersection of Guinea Road. This is for all of our friends in the
disability community. In order to avoid long lines at the mall, join us for
photo opportunities with Santa. We will have a camera for these photos, but
please bring your own camera if you want. There will be children's
activities and games, food, music, DVDs and fun! There will gifts for all
the kids and hundreds of stuffed animals for you to pick a dozen to take
home, so bring a big bag for all the gifts. Please bring a dessert or snack
if you like, but it is not required. We will have a table set aside for
gluten-free food. An RSVP would be GREATLY appreciated so we can get the
appropriate amount of the regular party food. RSVP by email to
holidayparty@asa-nv.org or holidayparty@poac-nova.org. CANCELLED!

19 & 20 December- Santa is coming to the disAbility Resource Center, 409
Progress St., Fredericksburg, VA 22401. Santa is coming to the dRC to visit
with children with disabilities who find it difficult to go to the crowded
and noisy mall. Santa will also visit with their brothers and sisters and be
available for a family or individual picture. For those that need it, Santa
has written a social story about his visit and he's included a communication
picture board. The dRC's goal is to provide children with disabilities that
have a hard time dealing with crowds or waiting in long lines an enjoyable
visit with Santa this holiday season. Please schedule your
child's/children's visit ASAP and let me know how many children from your
family will be attending and their ages, how many adults will be attending,
your e-mail (so we can e-mail the picture to you), the time you would like
to attend and a good contact phone number. For each child that attends, we
ask parents to fill out a form regarding the child's need and sensitivities
so that Santa can be aware of them prior to the child's visit with him.
Please bring the form with you or fax/send/e-mail it to me ahead of time.
We hope to have minimal wait times which is why we are scheduling families,
however, as with all things, nothing goes exactly on schedule so there may
be a short wait. Santa has scheduled his visit at the dRC for Dec. 20 but if
we have enough families, he will open up time on Dec. 19 too, however, all
appointments on the 20th must be filled before we schedule for Dec. 19. Dec.
20 from 2pm-5:30pm is still open. We will have activities and videos in our
conference room for children and their families that are waiting for their
visit with Santa. We'll also have cookies and drinks and treats for the
kids, and we'll be happy to take your child's and/or family's picture with
Santa (who has a real white beard!).
Please call Kim Lett, if you have any questions at 540-373-2559.
