| 31 January- Autism Snow Tubing Day at Ski Liberty, Gettysburg, PA on Sunday, 31 January 2010. The Autism Society of Northern Virginia (ASNV) will have their seventh annual tubing day at Ski Liberty, near Gettysburg, PA for all Virginia, DC and Maryland families with individuals with disabilities on Sunday, 31 January 2010. Directions are at http://www.skiliberty.com/lmr/info/directions.aspx. It is about an hour and a half drive from central Fairfax County. In case of any questions about weather, check the snow tubing conditions report at http://www.skiliberty.com/lmr/Snow-Grooming.aspx before departing home. For more information on this area and pictures of other folks having a good time, please look over their web page at http://www.skiliberty.com/lmr/tubing.aspx?c=mountain. Boulder Ridge is on the backside of Liberty Mountain. There is a shuttle bus running from the main lodge to the tubing lodge about every 15 minutes. There is a small food court area at the Boulder Ridge lodge. Meals are totally up to you, and you can bring your own lunch if you like. We have reserved a party room in the Boulder Ridge lodge from 8am to 2pm. The room is in the ground level of the lodge and to the right of the ticket counter. It is a place to change, eat lunch and hang out.
Purchase your own tubing tickets whenever you arrive and are ready to go on the hill. The prices are $20 for one hour, $24 for two hours and $9 for the kiddie tubing/ pulling per person. Recommended: § Plenty of changes of clothes for the kids, since they will certainly get wet. § The earlier you get there, the better; since the lines and crowds will be less. We would strongly recommend trying to get there before 10:00, since tickets after that time may not get you on the hill until sometime in the afternoon. For safety, they only allow a certain amount of people on the hill at one time. § You can make your check in and ticket buying go faster by printing and completing their liability release forms ahead of time by visiting: http://www.skiliberty.com/lmr/SiteAssets/files/info/RELEASE%20Tubing%20release%20doc%2009-10.pdf. We have talked to the Ski Liberty risk manager to get sensible policies on this day for our kids. The "magic carpet" escalator-like lift to go up the hill should be much better than the tow rope used in the past. However, they will NOT permit more than one person per tube going down the run, but you can hold two or more tubes together, so that they are like one tube. The intention is to have a few extra ski patrollers and folks from the adaptive skiing department available to help too. Join us for a day of fun in hopefully the sun on Sunday, 31 January 2010. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact Scott Campbell at the office at (703) 681-9426 or at home at (703) 241-2640. |
